THE RISE AND LIFECYCLE OPTIONS OF CARDBOARD

The rise of cardboard continues to be driven by the decline of bricks and mortar retail and the ever-increasing popularity of E commerce.

In the war against plastic, cardboard is maintaining its winning reputation as the most sustainable, environmentally friendly an ocean safe packaging material of choice.

Cardboard

We typically think of cardboard as brown boxes, but go inside the manufacturing of this dominant packaging material and you'll find it comes in two types:

Paperboard The first type of cardboard is called paperboard used for greeting cards, cereal boxes, pizza boxes, toilet paper rolls, toothpaste boxes, bakery boxes with paperboard being a single layer cardboard that's thicker than printing paper but still thin and easy to bend, fold and tear.

Corrugated Fibreboard The second type of cardboard is corrugated fibreboard largely being the preferred manufacturing material for shipping boxes. Corrugated fibreboard is made up of three layers of cardboard, an inside layer and outer layers incorporating a fluted triangle shaped medium placed between the outer layers providing the significant strength that cardboard requires to provide the safe shipping of contents.
