Perforating Cardboard with Staples & Tape
It has been recently discovered that cardboard perforating/shredding machines can be potentially damaged by cardboard with staples. Our cardboard perforators/shredders can cut staples but if they are put through the trimmer section, damage can potentially be caused.
Where is the trimmer section?
When perforating cardboard, the trimmer removes any excess cardboard from the left-hand side as it feeds through. Damage may potentially be caused if staples and the trimmer make contact with each other which may affect the trimmer's ability to slice off excess cardboard.
You may notice that after staples have been through the perforator, they become sharp. This can be a hazard for you, your customers and your products. We recommend removing any staples & metals before perforating to give you the best packaging result.
Can I perforate cardboard with staples?
We recommend removing or trimming off all staples from any cardboard before perforating to avoid:
- Sharp staples and material.
- Potential damage of the trimmer.
- Additional wear on the perforator.
Can I perforate cardboard with packaging tape on it?
Generally, yes, you can perforate cardboard with craft paper tape or clear packing tape. To avoid potential damage and additional wear, we recommend removing or trimming off any of the following less popular tapes:
- Cross filament reinforced packaging tape
- Gaffers tape
- PVC Vinyl tape
If you accidentally feed the occasional staple or tape it is not likely to cause any problems, however, repeatedly feeding staples or tapes will increase the chance of damage.
